Christoph Freund, the former sporting director of Red Bull Salzburg, has been appointed to the same role at Bundesliga powerhouse Bayern Munich, effective in September 2023.

Freund, who left his position at Red Bull Salzburg earlier this month, has an outstanding track record for identifying and developing talent, having overseen the rise of players such as Erling Haaland, Karim Adeyemi, and Dominik Szoboszlai.

Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn expressed his excitement about the appointment, describing Freund as an "excellent fit" for the club. "Christoph Freund has an impressive track record and a deep understanding of the game," Kahn said. "We are confident that he will continue the successful work that we have been doing, and help us maintain our position among the elite clubs in Europe."
