Subheadline: Seungri was released after serving 18 months for his role in the Burning Sun Club Scandal

Seungri, the former member of boy band Big Bang whose real name is Lee Seung-hyun, was released from prison on Thursday morning at 5 am. He had been serving an 18-month sentence for his role in the Burning Sun Club Scandal.

Seungri was arrested in May 2019 and charged with a number of crimes including prostitution, gambling and drug violations. He was convicted in August 2020 and sentenced to three years in prison. However his sentence was reduced to 18 months on appeal.

The Burning Sun Club Scandal was a major scandal in South Korea that involved allegations of sexual assault and prostitution at a nightclub in Seoul. A number of celebrities were implicated in the scandal including Seungri who was accused of providing sexual services to investors in his nightclub.

Seungri has denied all charges against him. He is expected to hold a press conference later today to address his release from prison.
